DIY chalk paint on Antique Bed

I found this amazing Antique French Provincial Double bed for my daughter on ebay for only $89! It was exactly the style she wanted so we grabbed it straight away!

When it arrived it was a thick cream colour & because we had just painted her room white it needed to match.  We painted her bed with 2 coats of DIY chalk paint using Dulux Antique white USA (Taubmans flat white base) bought at Bunnings. I then distressed & glazed the details using DIY glaze (watered down Dulux Klavier).

Here is a picture of the headboard, sorry for the bad lighting. Below is a picture of Kaitlin's room before the makeover...

Below is a picture of her room after the makeover... (oops her dog jumped on her bed & messed up her quilt)

Below are other pics of her room :)

DIY chalk paint TV Cabinet

Another DIY Project....

A friend of mine gave me this pine TV cabinet & it was stored in my garage for ages...

Unfortunately the top was water damaged. I took out the bottom drawers & my husband put in some flat pieces of plywood for me.

I sanded the top & then aged the timber with my DIY vinegar & steelo wool pad mixture. I then painted the bottom with my own DIY chalk paint. I used Tabmans flat paint & the colour is Sea Command. I then waxed the whole thing... Below is the end Product

DIY shabby chic Bed

Another one of my DIY projects...

I purchased this bed frame on ebay recently for $80

I didn't like the honey stain so I used paint stripper & a sander & got as much off as possible.

Excuse the mess. I am one messy worker

The end result was a bit patchy & they just looked like raw pine so I did my vinegar & steel wool wash to age the timber...

I only let the steelo pad soak in vinegar for 1hr. I took this photo when I first painted the mixture on. It did dry slightly darker than this.

I then painted the bed with my own DIY chalk paint. I used Taubmans flat paint with Dulux colour "Antique White USA" - Bunnings mixed this for me. I then distressed the paint and then waxed it to finish it off. Below is the finished product before I put the bed together...

I will update this post with the finished bed real soon :)

DIY Chalk Board Frame

Here is another one of my projects that I made from my new Pinterest obsession!  I found a metal platter at an opp shop for $2. I loved the shape & detail on the edge. I had a spare piece of wall near a cabinet that needed something so a new chalkboard was in order! Below is my work in progress - 1-2 coats of paint...

I purchased a Dulux paint sample pot at Bunnings. I already had the paint mixed for my DIY glaze. The colour I used was Dulux Klavier. I made my own DIY chalk board paint - there are a heap of recipe's on my Pinterest board "DIY paint & restoration techniques". Once the paint was dry I lightly rubbed white chalk all over the board & then wiped it off with a dry cloth & then wrote my message. As you can see I am no artist :)

Below is a picture of my finished product...

Recycled Book Ends!

Well I have been totally inspired by Pinterest so I have been making my own chalk paint and painting and distressing everything that is not pinned down in my home. A couple of my friends who follow me on Pinterest, twitter & facebook have asked to see some of my projects so here is my first one.

I found these book ends at a Salvation Army opp shop for $8 for the pair. They were originally terracotta....

First I painted the ends with my own DIY chalk paint - 1 1/2 cups paint mixed with 1/4 cup plaster of paris dissolved in 1/4 cup hot water. There are other recipe's for DIY chalk paint on one of my pinterest boards.  I used a Watyl colour "Bikram". Our local Bunnings doesn't stock Watyl paint anymore so I used a sample pot of Dulux paint & Bunnings mixed the colour for me. I then made my own glaze (also courtesy of Pinterest) using another Dulux sample pot colour "Klavier". I used about 1 tespoon of paint with 1/4 cup water (watery mixture) and brushed on the glaze in the grooves of the detail and then wiped it off immediately. Below is 1 pics of the finished product.
